Governor Khofifah Opens the Gala Premiere of “Jangan Buang Ibu”: Mama Hana Receives the East Java Inspirational Woman Award
Friday, June 19, 2026, was a moment filled with emotion and pride at Pakuwon Mall in Surabaya. Amid the festivities of the gala premiere of the film “Jangan Buang Ibu,” Dr. Hana Amalia Vandayani—affectionately known as “Mama Hana,” Founder and Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Pondok Kasih Foundation and Taman Bhinneka—was honored as an Inspirational Woman of East Java. This loving, motherly figure has dedicated her life to embracing and uplifting the dignity of marginalized communities who are often forgotten.

This award is a true reflection of Mama Hana’s consistency and sincerity over more than 35 years of leading the Pondok Kasih Foundation, as well as her establishment of the Taman Bhinneka Nusantara Creativity Center (NCC) in May 2025. Through the Pondok Kasih Foundation, a nonprofit social organization, she has provided a warm home for children (orphanages) and Elderly Women Homen (Senior Care Homes); Civil Rights Fulfilment (PHS)—which involves assisting in the issuance of more than 175,000 birth certificates, more than 23,000 marriage certificates, Resident Identity Cards (KTP), Family Cards (KK), and tens of thousands of mass weddings across 18 provinces; training in sewing, farming, and animal husbandry for the poor to help them become economically self-reliant; educational assistance; formal Early Childhood Education (KB-TK PAUD); non-formal education (Smart Cars, Smart Boats, Smart Motorcycles, and Reading Houses) spread across Surabaya, Sumatra, Jakarta, Tangerang, Bandung, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, East Nusa Tenggara, and Papua, serving more than 100,000 children per year; spiritual guidance services for inmates at 17 prisons in East Java and free health checkups for the elderly once a week in a number of marginalized communities in Surabaya, Mama Hana also builds bridges of peace through various outreach activities, interfaith dialogues and forums, as well as regional, national, and international youth festivals and jamborees. Together with hundreds of universities and tens of thousands of students, she prepares the younger generation to become agents of peace, unity, and national change. This spirit of unity is tangibly embodied at Taman Bhinneka, a “Mini Indonesia” in Surabaya that integrates urban agricultural education—such as hydroponics—with the beauty of miniature replicas of the 7 Interfaith Libraries and 10 Traditional Houses of the Archipelago, as well as various educational and creative facilities and other supporting amenities, such as Kafe Nusantara, Kedai Kopi Satu Hati, a playground, and more.

The presence of the Governor of East Java, Dr. (H.C.) Dra. Hj. Khofifah Indar Parawansa, M.Si., who opened the event, added to the solemn atmosphere. The emotional moment grew even more poignant when lead actress Nirina Zubir recited a touching poem titled “I’m Not Angry,” followed by a warm welcome from the founder of Leo Pictures, Mr. Agung Saputra. The event was also attended by Mr. Dermawan Suparsono, Chairman & CEO of PT. Sun Paper Source (SPS), the main sponsor that supported the creation of this film rich in moral messages.

With tears in her eyes yet a resolute expression, Mama Hana accepted the award not as a personal achievement, but as the result of the sincerity and collective hard work of everyone who supports Pondok Kasih and Taman Bhinneka. She dedicated this award entirely to the people of East Java, especially the residents of Surabaya. For Mama Hana, this trophy is not a symbol marking the end of a success, but rather a sacred reminder and a spark that fuels her spirit to tirelessly serve, bring well-being, and foster peace among her fellow human beings.
